NVIDIA releases libvdpau 1.3 library

Developers from NVIDIA presented libvdpau 1.3, a new version of the open source library supporting the VDPAU (Video Decode and Presentation) API for Unix. The VDPAU library allows you to use hardware acceleration mechanisms for processing video in h264, h265 and VC1 formats. At first, only NVIDIA GPUs were supported, but later support for open Radeon and Nouveau drivers appeared. VDPAU allows the GPU to take over tasks such as post-processing, compositing, rendering, and video decoding. The library is further developed libvdpau-va-gl with implementation of VDPAU API based on OpenGL and Intel VA-API hardware acceleration technology. libvdpau code spreads under the MIT license.

In addition to fixing bugs in libvdpau 1.3, support for accelerating video decoding in VP9 format has been implemented and a transition has been made to the assembly system Meson instead of the previously used automake and
autoconf.
