Perforce announces takeover of Puppet

Perforce, a company that develops commercial version control systems, software lifecycle management and coordinates collaboration between developers, has announced the takeover of Puppet, which coordinates the development of the eponymous open toolkit for centralized server configuration management. The deal, for an undisclosed amount, is expected to close in the second quarter of 2022.

It is noted that Puppet will join Perforce as a separate business unit and will continue to develop products without changing the brand. The combination of companies will increase the number of Perforce employees from 1200 to 1700. It is assumed that integration with Puppet products will allow Perforce to form a single end-to-end solution from a single vendor that covers the needs of teams using the DevOps methodology and includes tools for automating the management and security of the infrastructure. Engagement with the open source community and development of the Puppet open source code base will remain the same.
