Valve has released Proton 5.0-7, a package for running Windows games on Linux

Valve Company ΠΎΠΏΡƒΠ±Π»ΠΈΠΊΠΎΠ²Π°Π»Π° project release Proton 5.0-7, which is based on the developments of the Wine project and is aimed at enabling gaming applications created for Windows and presented in the Steam catalog to run on Linux. Project achievements extend under the BSD license.

Proton allows you to directly run Windows-only gaming applications on the Steam Linux client. The package includes the implementation of DirectX 9/10/11 (based on the package DXVK extension) and DirectX 12 (based on vkd3d) that work by translating DirectX calls to the Vulkan API provides improved support for game controllers and the ability to use full screen mode regardless of screen resolutions supported in games. To increase the performance of multi-threaded games, the mechanisms "esync" (Eventfd Synchronization) and "futex/fsyncΒ«.

Π’ new version:

  • The ability to play Grand Theft Auto 4, Street Fighter 5 and Streets of Rage 4 is provided;
  • DXVK layer with Direct3D 9/10/11 implementation on top of Vulkan API updated prior to release 1.6.1;
  • Resolved sound problems in TrackMania Nations Forever, TrackMania Ultimate Forever and Zusi 3 Aerosoft;
  • Fixed an issue that caused Plebby Quest: The Crusades to crash;
  • Connection has been established with Gearbox SHiFT in Borderlands 3;
  • The vkd3d layer has been updated with the implementation of Direct3D 12 on top of the Vulkan API;
  • Improved debugging tools.
