Valve has released Proton 6.3-6, a package for running Windows games on Linux

Valve has published the release of the Proton 6.3-6 project, which is based on the developments of the Wine project and is aimed at enabling gaming applications created for Windows and presented in the Steam catalog to run on Linux. The developments of the project are distributed under the BSD license.

Proton allows you to directly run Windows-only game applications on the Steam Linux client. The package includes the implementation of DirectX 9/10/11 (based on the DXVK package) and DirectX 12 (based on vkd3d-proton), working through the translation of DirectX calls to the Vulkan API, provides improved support for game controllers and the ability to use full-screen mode regardless of supported in screen resolution games. To increase the performance of multi-threaded games, the "esync" (Eventfd Synchronization) and "futex / fsync" mechanisms are supported.

  • Added optional support for the NVIDIA NVAPI library and DLSS technology, which allows you to use the Tensor cores of NVIDIA video cards for realistic image scaling using machine learning methods to increase resolution without losing quality. To enable it, set the environment variable PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1.
  • Improved cursor capture behavior in full screen mode.
  • Updated versions of wine-mono 6.3.0, DXVK 1.9.1, vkd3d-proton 2.4 and FAudio 20.08.
  • Resolved various issues with Microsoft Flight Simulator, Origin, Planet Coaster, Mafia III: Definitive Edition.
  • Fixed an issue installing the Unreal Engine 4 update affecting Everspace 2 and KARDS.
  • Resolved problems with audio output in Fallout: New Vegas, Oblivion, Borderlands 3 and Deep Rock Galactic.
  • Improved input handling after loss of focus in various games, including Warhammer: Chaosbane and Far Cry Primal.
