Zextras Takes Over Zimbra 9 Open Source Edition Builds

Company Zextras start the formation and publication of ready-made assemblies of the Zimbra 9 collaboration package and e-mail, positioned as an alternative to MS Exchange. Assemblies prepared for Ubuntu ΠΈ RHEL (260 MB).

Previously, Synacor, which oversees the development of Zimbra, announced to stop publishing binary builds of Zimbra Open Source Edition and intend to develop Zimbra 9 as a proprietary product without publishing new changes to the community. Later Synacor revised decision to publish source codes and continued to publish changes to GitHub, but refused to generate ready-made assemblies. In response, Zextras, which is involved in the development of Zimbra, began publishing ready-made builds on its website.

The Italian company Zextras began its history as a Zimbra integrator in Europe. Europeans liked the Zimbra collaboration system, but many of them stated that the functionality of the open-source version was not enough, and the functionality of the commercial version of the "Zimbra Network Edition" was excessive, and that it would be nice to have a middle version, where there would be fewer functions, but also the price would also be reduced. To meet these wishes, the Zextras Suite product was created - set of extensions for the free version of Zimbra OSE, due to which it was possible to add some of the functions of the commercial version to the free version of Zimbra and not overpay much for it.
