"After 20 years at Microsoft, it's time for my next adventure," wrote Ibarra on twitter. β€œIt's been a great ride with Xbox and the future is bright. Thanks to everyone on the Xbox team, I'm incredibly proud of what we've accomplished and I wish you all the best. Will share what's next for me soon (super excited)! Most importantly, I want to thank all of you fellow gamers and our big fans for all the support. Keep playing and I hope to see you online soon!".

Mike Ybarra joined Xbox in 2000. He was hired as a systems engineer after working for Hewlett-Packard. Over the years, Ybarra has risen to director and manager, working on projects at Microsoft such as Windows 7, Xbox Live (in both cases he was in a general manager role) and Xbox Game Studios. Under his leadership, such games as Gears of War, Age of Empires and Sunset Overdrive.

In 2014, he was promoted to the role of Corporate Vice President of Xbox Platform Program Management. In 2017 Mike Ybarra also worked on Xbox Live, Xbox Game Pass and Mixer in addition to his VP duties.

No word yet on who will take Mike Ybarra's place. In response to an inquiry on the matter from GamesIndustry.biz, Microsoft released the following statement: β€œIn his 20 years at Microsoft, Mike Ibarra has had an incredible impact, from shipping multiple editions of Windows to creating AAA games, running our gaming platform and services. We thank him for his contribution and wish him all the best."

Ibarra's departure from Microsoft is another in a series of major corporate reshuffles of platformers this year: the president of Nintendo of America had previously left his post Reggie Fils-Aime, and most recently the chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios left Shawn Layden.
