The state corporation Roskosmos announces that refueling of the Spektr-RG spacecraft with propellant components has begun at the Baikonur Cosmodrome.
Spektr-RG is a space observatory created as part of a Russian-German project. The purpose of the mission is to study the Universe in the X-ray wavelength range.
The device carries on board two X-ray telescopes with oblique incidence optics - eROSITA and ART-XC. Among the tasks are: a comprehensive study of gamma-ray bursts and their X-ray afterglows, observation of supernova explosions, the study of black holes and neutron stars in our galaxy, measuring the distances and velocities of pulsars and other galactic sources, etc.
It is noted that refueling the observatory with fuel components will last several days. After that, the spacecraft will be transported to the assembly and test building to prepare for assembly as part of the space head part of the Proton-M launch vehicle.
The launch of the observatory is scheduled for June 21 this year. The spacecraft will be launched into the vicinity of the Lagrange point L2 of the Sun-Earth system.
