KT Corporation (KT) and Samsung Electronics announced that they have successfully demonstrated gigabit data transfer rates in a commercial fifth-generation (5G) cellular network.
The tests were carried out on a network in Seoul (South Korea), which has been in commercial use since December 1 last year. It provides simultaneous support for 4G/LTE and 5G.
The network uses Samsung 5G NR equipment. During the tests, the frequency range of 3,5 GHz was used. A Galaxy S10 5G smartphone was used as a subscriber terminal.
As a result, the speed of information transfer towards the subscriber was about 1 Gbit / s. It is expected that end users will be able to appreciate the benefits of 5G technology in a deployed network by the end of spring.
We add that the mentioned Galaxy S10 5G smartphone will go on sale on April 5th. The device is equipped with a Snapdragon 855 processor, a Snapdragon X50 5G modem, a 6,7-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 3040 Γ 1440 pixels, a quad main camera, a dual front camera, and a 4500 mAh battery. The price is expected at the level of 1300-1350 US dollars.
