We have compiled a digest of events that will take place at ITMO University until the end of the year. It features open days, film festivals and seminars with engineers from large concerns.

Open Day of the Faculty of Technological Management and Innovation

When: 24 November
Where: st. Tchaikovskogo, 11, building 2, ITMO University

The event is for schoolchildren who are ready to enter universities. This is an opportunity to get to know the teachers and the training program. Also, future students will have the opportunity to talk with entrepreneur and venture investor Anton Gopka, who in March was Dean of the Faculty of Technological Management and Innovation at ITMO University.

In addition, schoolchildren will enjoy the business game “Technological Entrepreneurship”. Its goal is to teach teenagers to choose a company development strategy in the high-tech market.

Course of lectures by Professor Dage Sandholm “Introduction to computational spectroscopy”

When: November 25 – 28
Where: st. Lomonosova, 9, ITMO University

Dage Sandholm (Dage Sundholm), a professor of chemistry from the University of Helsinki, will talk about how to calculate the photoluminescence spectra of quantum dots and demonstrate his developments in the field of computational studies of molecular optical properties.

To attend lectures you need registration. The presentation will be held in English.

Online marathon on time management “How to get everything done before the New Year”

When: November 26 – December 12
Where: online

A series of webinars on increasing productivity from the Center for Personal Development of ITMO University “RITM”. You will be introduced to 25 tools for time management and remote work. And they will help you choose them depending on your type of management and lifestyle.

The marathon will be held on VKontakte with theoretical and practical classes. For ITMO University students and staff participation is free, for everyone else 500–1000 rubles.

Festival of Contemporary Scientific Film (FANK)

When: November 27 and December 11
Where: Kronverksky pr., 49, ITMO University

We show the most interesting full-length “documentaries” about science from around the world. Two films are planned:

  • “Do you trust this computer?” — Directed by Chris Payne. The work summarizes everything we know about the development of artificial intelligence systems. The film stars Elon Musk, futurist Raymond Kurzweil and director Jonathan Nolan.
  • “Why are we creative?” — filmed by Herman Vaske. This is a series of interviews with eminent directors, philosophers, musicians, artists and scientists about the nature of creativity. David Bowie, Stephen Hawking, Quentin Tarantino, the Dalai Lama and many others shared their thoughts - 101 people in total.

Public lecture by Dr. Bonnie Buchanan “Artificial Intelligence in Financial Services and FinTech: The Road Ahead”

When: 29 November
Where: st. Lomonosova, 9, ITMO University

Professor Bonnie Buchanan from the University of Surrey will talk about how FinTech and AI systems are used in the financial sector: when conducting banking operations, making payments, etc. ITMO students and employees can participate.

Seminar with the participation of Bosch representatives

When: 29 November
Where: Kronverksky pr., 49, ITMO University

Head of the Technology and Research Department Uwe Iben and Lead Engineer Timofey Kruglov from Bosch will give a lecture on the topic “Applied Mathematics”. They will consider:

  • Information extraction methods for modeling solid and porous media using the DEM model;
  • Assessment of the properties of movement of solid and liquid particles using random walk and percolation;
  • Options for applying these methods to supercapacitors, fuel cells, and catalysts.

Everyone is welcome. The presentation will be held in English.

Selection game for technology entrepreneurs “Business Debut 2019-20”

When: December 1
Where: st. Lomonosova, 9, ITMO University

The business game “Build a company/Sell a company” is a simulator of entrepreneurial activity, which was organized with the support of RUSNANO. Proven participants (100 people from nine regions of Russia) will be able to get a job in a technology startup. For example, a company developing titanium bicycle frames or flexible solar panels for house roofs. Register required.

Open Day of the Faculty of Photonics and Optical Informatics

When: December 4
Where: Cadet Line V.O., 3, building 2, ITMO University

Faculty members will talk about quantum developments and show how modern information transmission systems work. They will also take a tour of the university’s laboratories. We invite applicants who are interested in physics, lasers, quantum cryptography and holograms.

2nd international school-conference “Smart Nanosystems for Life”

When: 10 – 13 December
Where: Birzhevaya lin., 14, ITMO University

The event will take place as part of the celebration 120th anniversary of ITMO University. We will tell you about the latest developments by university staff in the field of optics and optical materials science, as well as disease therapy using new nanomaterials. Participants will receive master classes on working with spectroscopes and presentations by the world's leading scientists in the field of nanostructure optics.
