Strike while the iron is hot: Apex Legends will appear on smartphones

During the last reporting conference, Electronic Arts told investors about the past quarter and plans for the future. Including publisher Apex Legends gladly talked about the success of the network shooter and announced plans to port Apex Legends to more platforms, primarily mobile, following the example of Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.

Expansion to smartphones is an obvious choice, especially considering that it is now considered one of the important steps for game-services. WITH Anthem there are problems - EA admitted that the launch did not live up to expectations - so a double bet on Apex Legends is worthwhile. As part of the same approach, EA will launch Apex Legends in China, which will significantly increase the number of players.

Judging by this statement and the example of the Fortnite battle royale, a version for the Switch hybrid console may also enter the market, although it may not be so simple. The thing is, Epic Games has gone to great lengths to optimize their engine for mobile and Switch, so Fortnite even supports cross-platform play across all platforms. While Respawn could theoretically make the Source engine work on mobile devices, the studio is more likely to release a separate mobile version of the game that will develop in parallel, similar to PUBG.

During a conference call with investors, EA also revealed that Apex Legends now has over 50 million players, the same figure the company called in March, which may indicate slower growth. However, 30 percent of users are new to the EA ecosystem, and the company said that the Respawn team has learned from the game's problematic launch and is now working hard to fix the major flaws.
