Analytical center GS Group summed up the results of the study of the Russian market of mobile phones and smartphones in the first quarter of this year.
It is reported that in the period from January to March inclusive, 11,6 million cellular devices were imported into our country. This is 15% more than the result for the first quarter of last year. For comparison: in 2018, the quarterly shipments of mobile phones and smartphones increased by only 4% year on year.
Analysts say that the structure of growth is changing: if in 2018 the market increased in quantity due to smartphones, then in 2019 it was primarily due to push-button cell phones and low-budget smartphones worth up to 7 thousand rubles in retail.
Smart devices priced from 7000 rubles accounted for 42% (approximately 6,32 million pieces) in the total supply of handsets to our country.
The top three smartphone vendors are Huawei, Samsung and Apple. Together they occupy 85% of the smartphone market with a price of 7 thousand rubles, and this share has grown compared to the same periods in 2018 and 2017 (71% and 76%, respectively).
For the first time, the Chinese company Huawei took the first place in terms of deliveries, having shipped 2,6 million smartphones in the first quarter of this year. South Korean giant Samsung maintained shipments of 2,1 million units, an increase of 11% in 2019 after a decline of 7% in the first quarter of 2018. As for Apple, the supply of smartphones from this company almost halved over the year - by 46%, falling to 0,6 million units.
The fourth position is occupied by the Chinese company Xiaomi, which sold 486 smartphones. Nokia, which occupied the fourth place in 2018, slowed down in the first quarter of 2019, having sold 15 thousand devices.
