Kaspersky Lab studied the involvement of Russian children in the world of gadgets and social networks

In the overwhelming majority of cases, children in Russia get acquainted with the world of gadgets at the age of three - it is at this age that parents most often give their baby a mobile device for the first time. After about two years, half of the children already have their own smartphone or tablet, and by the age of 11–14, almost none of them are left without a gadget. This is evidenced by a study conducted by Kaspersky Lab.

According to Kaspersky Lab, the majority of boys and girls - more than 70 percent - communicate with their friends and peers on the Internet, in particular on social networks. Thus, 43% of Russian children of primary school age already have a page on social networks. Among high school students, this figure reaches 95%. At the same time, more than half of children aged 7–18 received an invitation to “be friends” from strangers, in 34% of cases these were strangers. This fact worries parents the most.

In their busy online lives, children rarely pay attention to privacy issues. The study showed that more than half (58%) of schoolchildren indicate their real age on their page, 39% of children post the school number, 29% publish photos that show the situation of the apartment, 23% leave information about relatives, including parents, 10% indicate geolocation, 7% indicate a mobile phone, and 4% indicate a home address. This light-hearted approach to protecting personal data suggests that children often underestimate the dangers lurking in cyberspace and beyond.

Surveys of parents and their children show that almost a third of the younger generation aged 15-18 spends almost all their free time online. Almost half of the children admitted that they hide something from their Internet life from their parents. Most often, this is the time they spend in front of a computer monitor, as well as the sites they go to, and films / series that are not suitable for age. It is also important that almost a third of parents had conflicts with children aged 11-14 years because of the online life of the child. This is the age group with the highest such indicator, according to a report published by Kaspersky Lab, the full version of which is available on the kaspersky.ru website.
