Kaspersky Lab: the number of attacks is falling, but their complexity is growing

The amount of malware has declined, but cybercriminals have begun to practice more and more sophisticated hacking schemes aimed at the corporate sector. This is evidenced by a study conducted by Kaspersky Lab.

Kaspersky Lab: the number of attacks is falling, but their complexity is growing

According to Kaspersky Lab, in 2019, malicious software was detected on the devices of every fifth user in the world, which is 10% less than a year earlier. The number of unique malicious resources used by cybercriminals to carry out cyberattacks has also halved. At the same time, threats from encryption programs that block access to data and require payment of a certain amount to cybercriminals to return access to valuable information continue to remain relevant.

“We see that the number of threats is decreasing, but they are becoming more sophisticated. This leads to the fact that the level of complexity of the tasks facing security solutions and employees of security departments is growing. In addition, attackers are expanding the geography of successful attacks. So, if some kind of threat helped the attackers achieve their goals in one region, then they will implement it in another part of the world. To prevent attacks and reduce their number, we recommend training employees of all levels and departments in cybersecurity skills, as well as regularly inventorying services and equipment,” says Sergey Golovanov, leading antivirus expert at Kaspersky Lab.
