Lennart Pottering left Red Hat and joined Microsoft

Lennart Poettering, who created projects such as Avahi (an implementation of the ZeroConf protocol), the PulseAudio sound server, and the systemd system manager, left Red Hat, where he worked since 2008 and led the development of systemd. Microsoft is named as a new place of work, where Lennart's activities will also be related to the development of systemd.

Microsoft uses systemd in its CBL-Mariner distribution, which is being developed as a universal base platform for Linux environments used in cloud infrastructure, edge systems, and various Microsoft services.

In addition to Lennart, Microsoft also employs such well-known open source figures as Guido van Rossum (creator of the Python language), Miguel de Icaza (creator of GNOME and Midnight Commander and Mono), Steve Coast (founder of OpenStreetMap), Steve French (maintainer of CIFS / SMB3 subsystems in the Linux kernel) and Ross Gardler (Vice President of the Apache Foundation). Also joining Microsoft this year is Christian Brauner, LXC and LXD project leader, glibc maintainer, and systemd contributor.
