Lenovo to launch laptops with Fedora Linux distribution pre-installed

Fedora Project chief spokesman Matthew Miller told Fedoramagazine that Lenovo laptop buyers will soon have the opportunity to purchase a laptop with Fedora pre-installed. The opportunity to purchase a customized laptop will appear with the release of the ThinkPad P1 Gen2, ThinkPad P53 and ThinkPad X1 Gen8 series laptops. In the future, the line of laptops that can be purchased with Fedora pre-installed may be expanded.

The Lenovo team is already working with colleagues from Red Hat (from the Fedora desktop division) to prepare Fedora 32 Workstation for use on laptops. Miller said that cooperation with Lenovo will not affect the policies and principles of operation and distribution of the distribution. All software will be installed on Lenovo laptops and will be installed from the official Fedora repositories.

Miller has high hopes for the collaboration with Lenovo because it has the potential to greatly expand Fedora's user base.
