Lenovo will ship Ubuntu and RHEL on all ThinkStation and ThinkPad P models

Lenovo announced the intention to provide pre-installation of Ubuntu and Red Hat Enterprise Linux for all models of ThinkStation workstations and ThinkPad "P" series laptops. Starting this summer, any device configuration can be ordered with Ubuntu or RHEL pre-installed. Some models, such as the ThinkPad P53 and P1 Gen 2, will be able to pre-install Fedora Linux in pilot mode.

All devices will be certified to work with these distributions, will be fully compatible with them, tested and will be supplied with the necessary set of drivers. For owners of devices pre-installed with Linux, a full range of support services will be available - from the delivery of patches with the elimination of vulnerabilities and system updates, to verified and optimized drivers, firmware and BIOS. Moreover, work will be done to bring drivers into the core Linux kernel, which will help achieve first-class compatibility with any Linux distribution. Stability and compatibility with Linux will be maintained throughout the life of the device.
