The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted LG Electronics a patent for a Black box for vehicles.
It is necessary to make a reservation right away that the document belongs to the βDβ class, that is, it describes the design of the development. Therefore, the technical characteristics of the solution are not given. But the illustrations give a general idea of ββthe novelty.
As you can see in the images, the "black box" is a special unit that will be mounted in the ceiling area of ββthe vehicle - behind the interior rear-view mirror.
The module will receive a set of various sensors and a camera. The latter will allow you to track the situation inside the car and, probably, to record the behavior of the driver.
It can be assumed that the integrated sensors will be able to register accelerations and impacts. It is not excluded the presence of a receiver of satellite navigation systems.
The information collected by the "black box" will, if necessary, help to reconstruct the picture of the traffic accident. On the basis of the device, additional functions and services can also be implemented - for example, an automatic emergency call system.
So far, nothing has been announced about LG's plans to bring the development to the commercial market.
