Linux Mint Distribution Developers
Linux Mint project lead Clement Lefebvre said the new OS release is scheduled for Christmas. It will improve support for high resolution HiDPI displays in the Cinnamon and MATE editions. This will make icons and other elements less blurry.
Taskbar icons will also be updated in a future build to match HiDPI support. In addition, an improvement to the Language Settings panel is promised, which allows users to set the time format for their respective locale and region. Although there are no details yet.
Under the hood, the new system will still run Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) and be based on the Linux 4.15 kernel. Although, of course, no one bothers to install a more recent kernel and the newest packages. More details about future changes can be found in the official developer blog.
In general, the creators of Linux Mint continue to create the most friendly and easy-to-learn distro, which allows novice users to switch to Linux as painlessly as possible. And although it is not without flaws, the distribution is still very interesting as a replacement for the Windows operating system.
