GitLab localization needs community feedback

Good afternoon. The volunteer translation team for the GitLab product wants to reach out to the community of developers, testers, managers, and other professionals who work with this product, as well as everyone who cares. It should be noted that this is not a new initiative, the Russian language has existed in GitLab for a long time. However, lately the percentage of translation has been increasing and we would like to focus on quality. Users who always select the original language in the software, we know about your opinion: "do not translate". Therefore, GitLab has always had a free choice of language.

Often we are faced with the fact that a free translation into Russian is more often unclaimed due to the fact that the Russian versions of highly specialized terms are either translated too literally, or a variant that is not used β€œby the people”. We would like to make using the localized version of GitLab convenient, comfortable, and most importantly, understandable. The problem is also that within the team there are disagreements in the translation of certain terms, and naturally, the opinion of each of us does not reflect the opinion of the majority.

We would like you to take part in the survey, which contains translation options for controversial terms, share your opinion and leave your mark on the development of GitLab. The form also has a free input field if a term is not there, but you would like to pay attention to it.

You can participate in the survey using the following link - Google Forms.
