Bastien Nocera has announced a new out-of-memory handler for the Gnome desktop. Written in C. Licensed under GPL3. The daemon requires kernel 5.2 or later. The daemon checks the memory pressure via /proc/pressure/memory and, if the threshold is exceeded, sends a suggestion via dbus to the processes about the need to moderate their appetites. The daemon may also try to keep the system responsive by writing to /proc/sysrq-trigger.
