Xiaomi Group Vice President and Redmi Brand General Manager Lu Weibing introduced two new smartphones - Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi 7. Redmi AirDots wireless headphones and Redmi 1A washing machine were also announced.
After the presentation ended, Liu Weibing issued a statement warning users that the price of Redmi-branded devices would rise in the future.
βEarly on, Redmi was a brand for devices under 1000 yuan (about $149). Now the price has risen to 1599 yuan (about $238) and will continue to rise in the future. We will gradually increase the price to 2000 yuan (about $298) or even to 2500 yuan (about $372),β the top manager said.
Lu Weibing also admitted that as the quality and price of Redmi-branded devices improve, they will overlap with Xiaomi products. However, there will be compromises in terms of features. To put it simply, Redmi's goal is to continue Xiaomi's strategy of achieving the best value for money on its devices.
