Reddit initiated an investigation into the incident. According to preliminary data, the pages were spoofed as a result of the capture of accounts of community moderators. All moderators of captured groups did not have two-factor authentication enabled. It is assumed that these moderators used the same password on different sites and the attackers used the available databases of compromised passwords to gain access.
