The international payment system Mastercard, according to RBC, may soon introduce in Russia a service for withdrawing cash through ATMs without a card.
We are talking about the use of QR codes. To receive the new service, the user will need to install a special mobile application on their smartphone.
The process of receiving funds without a bank card involves scanning a QR code from the ATM screen and confirming your identity using biometrics via a smartphone (fingerprint or facial recognition can be used). After completing the necessary checks, the ATM will dispense cash.
βAt the first stage, the service will be available only to Mastercard cardholders of those banks that join the project. In the future, Mastercard plans to connect cards of other payment systems to the service,β notes RBC.
It is reported that Mastercard is currently negotiating the introduction of the service with interested credit institutions. To provide the new service, banks will have to update the software on their ATMs.
There is no word yet on when the new service might become operational.
