MediaTek to unveil its 5G chipset later this month

Huawei, Samsung and Qualcomm have already introduced chipsets with support for 5G modems. Network sources say that MediaTek will soon follow suit. A Taiwanese company has announced that a new 5G-enabled single-chip system will be introduced in May 2019. This means that the manufacturer has only a few days left to present his development.

MediaTek to unveil its 5G chipset later this month

The Helio M70 modem was originally positioned by MediaTek as a platform for creating devices with 5G support. The product is not yet mass-produced and is not supplied to actual smartphone manufacturers.

It is not known whether the new chipset will have an integrated 5G modem. It is possible that the MediaTek event will be dedicated to the presentation of the Helio M70 modem. It also remains unclear when the first smartphones equipped with the new MediaTek chipset with the ability to work in fifth-generation communication networks may appear on the market.

From the MediaTek report, it becomes clear that the new 5G chipset supports artificial intelligence technologies. Probably, we are talking about AI Fusion technology, which is used to distribute tasks between APUs and image processors. This approach can significantly increase the speed of execution of processes related to AI. This technology has already been used in the Helio P90 chip, which is manufactured using a 12nm process.

Details regarding MediaTek's new 5G chipset will be revealed in the next few days.
