At an event in China on the same day as Meizu 16s was introduced. This phone may seem like a small upgrade from last year's Meizu 16th in terms of design, but don't be fooled: the new smartphone is bigger, better, and more powerful.
The heart of the Meizu 16s is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, which is complemented by 6 or 8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM, as well as 128 or 256 GB of UFS storage. There is Hyper Gaming technology (coming soon with Flyme OS 8), which automatically overclocks the Adreno 640 graphics in complex scenes for the highest quality gaming environment.
The 16s was designed by Meizu founder Jack Wong. The phone fits snugly in the palm of your hand thanks to the curved back with a 0,5Β° curve. The small thickness also contributes to the convenience of holding. Like Meizu 16th, the new model received a fingerprint scanner built into the screen. According to the manufacturer, the fingerprint sensor now works with wet hands, has become 100% faster and much more reliable.
The 6,2-inch Super AMOLED display (2232 Γ 1080, ratio 18,6:9) occupies 91,53% of the front side of the device. It is bonded to the safety glass using the COF method to minimize thickness and has curved corners. Small bezels remain along the edges, and the size of the βchinβ has been reduced to 4,2 mm. Also worth mentioning is Rheinland's VDE-certified UV protection, which blocks out up to 33% of harmful blue light. The display also supports smooth backlighting (maximum brightness 430 nits) based on varying DC current to combat PWM.
Another key improvement of Meizu 16s is a more capacious 3600 mAh battery versus 3010 mAh for Meizu 16th. Supports high-speed 24-watt charging mCharge 3.0 (replenishes 60% capacity in half an hour). The manufacturer, however, had to sacrifice some thickness in order to increase the battery, which grew from 7,3 mm to 7,6 mm (and yet Meizu 16s is thinner than the Galaxy S10 and Xiaomi Mi 9 with less capacious batteries). In addition, the weight of the device in a case made of glass and metal is only 165 grams - modestly by today's standards, when flagships make the pocket heavier by 200 grams or even more.
The device uses a rather modest dual rear camera by modern standards. The main sensor is the now popular 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 with a large aperture of f / 1,7 and a 4-axis optical stabilization system. The matrix is ββQuad Bayer, so we are talking, in fact, about a 12-megapixel sensor (with reservations regarding the dynamic range). The secondary camera is equipped with a Sony IMX 350 sensor with a resolution of 20 megapixels and f / 2,6 aperture. This lens provides a 4x optical zoom. 30K/6p video recording is supported. There is a XNUMX-element dual-tone flash and phase detection autofocus.
The front camera for self-portraits uses a 20-megapixel Samsung Isocell 3T2 1/3β³ sensor with f / 2,2 aperture - this is the first device on the market with such a sensor. In addition, reportedly, thanks to the smallest front lens in the world, the camera is located in the upper symmetrical "chin" frame and does not require a cutout in the display. Supports HDR + mode, Meizu ArcSoft algorithm for high-quality self-portraits, and unlocking the device in the face takes only 0,2 seconds.
An important innovation in Meizu 16s can be considered NFC support for making payments. There is an updated Engine 3.0 tactile feedback engine, stereo speakers for surround sound, although the manufacturer has abandoned the traditional 3,5 mm audio jack. The Meizu 16s comes in three color options: Carbon Black with a nano-coated carbon fiber texture, Pearl White with a plasma polish, and Phantom Blue, which is inspired by the Mozambique Channel. The device runs Android 9 Pie with Flyme OS 7.3 interface and One Mind 3.0 productivity suite. The release of Flyme OS 8 is promised, which is already being tested on Meizu 16s.
The starting price is 3198 yuan (~$475) for the 6/128 GB version. For the 8/128 GB variant, you will have to pay 3498 yuan (~$520), and for 8/256 - 3998 yuan (~$595).
