Microsoft quietly launched the first Azure cloud region in Israel

Microsoft launched the Azure cloud region in Israel without much fanfare. The official announcement has been removed. The new region is said to include three Azure Availability Zones, which offer customers additional resiliency as the region is self-powered, networked, and cooled together to provide additional resiliency to data center failures. The Central Israel region is listed as active on the Azure Regions page. While Microsoft was the first US cloud provider to announce plans to launch a region in Israel, the company was the last to actually open a cloud region in the country. Microsoft has announced plans to open its first data centers in Israel in 2020. The facilities were supposed to open in 2021 in the Modi'in area between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, but in 2021 the local press reported that the opening of the region was being postponed to early 2022.
