In May, the Windows 10 operating system will receive a search engine similar to Spotlight in macOS. To enable it, you will need to install the PowerToys utility, which simplifies certain tasks and is intended for advanced users.
It is reported that the new search tool will replace the “run” window called by the Win + R key combination. By entering queries in the pop-up field, you can quickly find files and applications stored in the computer’s memory. The developers also promise support for plugins like a calculator and a dictionary. It will be possible to perform simple calculations and learn translations and meanings of words without launching special applications.
Microsoft has been developing a new search engine since January 2020. At the moment, it only knows what the search field in the Start menu is capable of. In the future, the company wants to improve it to such an extent that it is more convenient and functional than the Spotlight search engine in macOS.

The new search engine will be part of the PowerToys toolkit. It currently includes six tools: FancyZones, File Explorer, Image Resizer, PowerRename, ShortCut Guide, and Window Walker. All of them make the computer easier to use. For example, the PowerRename utility allows you to bulk rename the names of files in a folder.
