Chromium-based Microsoft Edge will fix one of the classic browser's old problems

At the end of last year, Microsoft decided to change its EdgeHTML rendering engine to the more common Chromium. The reasons for this were the higher speed of the latter, support for different browsers, fast updates, and so on. By the way, it was the ability to update the browser independently of Windows itself that became one of the decisive aspects.

Chromium-based Microsoft Edge will fix one of the classic browser's old problems

On According to According to researchers at Duo, the "classic" Edge has often lagged and is lagging behind other browsers in terms of updates. It is curious that the morally and technically obsolete Internet Explorer was one of the most frequently updated products.

The researchers note that in 2018, Microsoft Edge was in fifth place in terms of "lateness" of updates. Now he has come out on top. It is assumed that this happened due to the development of the new Edge, where all the forces were thrown, while the classic browser is only minimally supported.

In addition, the classic Microsoft Edge was hardwired into the system and required the installation of Windows 10. The new version is not tied to the OS so much. It can function on the "ten", as well as on Windows 7, 8.1 and even macOS. That is, using Chromium-based Microsoft Edge automatically expands the browser ecosystem and allows it to gain new fans.

And although at the moment there is no information about whether a new version of the browser is being developed for Linux, its appearance would be quite expected. Given Microsoft's interest in open source, this would be a logical step.
