Microsoft prepares xCloud exclusives and transition to Scarlett hardware

Microsoft is in discussions with its own studios and third-party studios to create exclusive games for the Project xCloud cloud service. Company spokesperson Kareem Choudhry confirmed the information at the X019 conference in London during an interview with Australian agencies, stressing: “We are not yet ready to share information about specific projects. But it takes one and a half to two years to develop a new game and intellectual property.”

Mr. Chowdhry noted that the focus is primarily on those games that do not require the labor of developers to move to the cloud, and added: "So right now we have a platform that can run any of the 3000 games available on Xbox today."

In addition, certain APIs have been added to the Xbox Developer Tools to allow the game to determine whether it is streaming or not. These application interfaces allow developers to make any changes they want specifically for streaming, such as changing font sizes or network code to accommodate the fact that the server is in a data center.

Chowdhry also revealed that Project xCloud will eventually transition to the next generation Project Scarlett gaming console platform: “We designed Scarlett with the cloud in mind, and as our family of console products evolves into the next generation, the cloud will also evolve. ". In this regard, it is curious whether the Xbox One X generation will be skipped? After all, modern xCloud servers use Xbox One S hardware.

The xCloud project is under active testing in the UK, US and South Korea. In 2020, the preview program will expand to more regions and devices.
