Microsoft has provided support for the open format ODF 1.3 in MS Office 2021

Microsoft has announced that Microsoft Office 2021 and Microsoft 365 Office 2021 will support the ODF 1.3 (OpenDocument) open specification, which is available in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Previously, the ability to work with documents in the ODF 1.3 format was only available in LibreOffice 7.x, and MS Office was limited to supporting the ODF 1.2 specification. From now on, MS Office allows you to work with the current version of the ODF format, which is offered along with support for its own OOXML (Office Open XML) format, used in files with the extensions .docx, .xlsx and .pptx. When exporting to ODF, documents are saved only in the ODF 1.3 format, but older alternative office suites will be able to process these files, ignoring ODF 1.3-specific innovations.

The ODF 1.3 format is notable for the addition of new features to ensure document security, such as digitally signing documents and encrypting content using OpenPGP keys. The new version also adds support for polynomial and moving average regression types for graphs, implements additional methods for formatting digits in numbers, adds a separate type of header and footer for the title page, defines tools for indenting paragraphs depending on the context, improves tracking of changes in the document, and added a new template type for body text in documents.
