Microsoft has opened registration for xCloud testing for 11 European countries

Microsoft is starting to open beta testing of its xCloud gaming streaming service for European countries. The software giant initially launched xCloud Preview in September for the US, UK, and South Korea. The service is now available in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Sweden.

Anyone in these countries can now sign up to test the xCloud for Android version. But due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Microsoft is cautious about when people will actually get access to the service. β€œWe know that gaming is an important way for people to stay connected, especially during times of forced social distancing, but we also recognize how Internet bandwidth is impacting regional networks as more people stay home and use the Internet responsibly.” explained the head of Project xCloud Catherine Gluckstein (Catherine Gluckstein).

Microsoft is taking a measured approach to help maintain access to the Web by starting beta testing of the service in each market with a limited number of people and gradually expanding the number of participants. Registration for 11 European countries is already open on the Microsoft xCloud website.

Microsoft is still planning a wider xCloud launch this year, but back in 2019, Gluckstein warned in an interview with The Verge that not all countries where the xCloud beta test will take place will have access to a full launch of the service. Microsoft also recently started testing xCloud for iPhone and iPad, but the company said it had to limit itself to one game due to App Store policy.
