Microsoft received a license to supply Huawei with software

Microsoft representatives announced that the corporation has received a license from the US government to supply its own software to the Chinese company Huawei.

β€œOn November 20, the US Department of Commerce approved Microsoft's request to grant a license to export mass market software to Huawei. We appreciate the Department's actions in response to our request,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in response to the issue.

U.S. administration officials announced this week that some U.S. companies will be able to resume business with the Chinese telecom giant, which was placed on a so-called blacklist mid-year for national security reasons.

The Commerce Department has confirmed that it has begun issuing licenses to trade with Huawei to some companies, expanding the Chinese manufacturer's supplier base and bringing some clarity to the long-standing Huawei ban. Not long ago, one of the officials said that the Ministry of Commerce had received about 300 applications for a license, about half of which had already been processed. About half of them, or a quarter of the total, were approved, while the rest were rejected.

It remains unclear exactly which products have been approved for export by Huawei, which is the world's largest telecommunications equipment maker and second-largest smartphone supplier. A source familiar with the situation said that licenses have been approved for the supply of certain components for smartphones, as well as non-electronic components.

Huawei is probably most interested in renewing cooperation with Google, since currently the company's new smartphones cannot use the services and proprietary applications of the American company, which makes it much more difficult to promote them outside of China.
