Microsoft to stop providing Windows updates to Huawei

Microsoft may soon join the ranks of American technology companies such as Google, Qualcomm, Intel, Broadcom, which have ceased cooperation with the Chinese Huawei in connection with its making in the "black" list after the release of the decree of US President Donald Trump.

Microsoft to stop providing Windows updates to Huawei

On May 20, according to Kommersant's sources, Microsoft sent instructions on this matter to its representative offices in a number of countries, including Russia. The termination of cooperation will affect the segments of consumer electronics and b2b solutions. According to the source, from now on, all communications between representative offices and Huawei will be carried out only through the headquarters of Microsoft.

The termination of cooperation may force Huawei to abandon plans to expand its presence in the notebook market due to possible problems with Windows software. The company started working in this market in 2017, promising to become a leader within 3-5 years. But according to Gartner and IDC, Huawei was still not in the top 5 last year, so there is no need to talk about serious damage from Microsoft's refusal to cooperate.

As for the b2b segment, here, according to a Kommersant source, the software of the American corporation is used in servers and data storage solutions, as well as the Huawei Cloud service.

According to the interlocutors of Kommersant, the Chinese company was ready for such a development of events and has a strategy to get out of the situation. In any case, it has Linux-based server solutions. Although, if we talk about the long term, in the future in the consumer segment there may be problems with the compatibility of Huawei products with Windows.

In Russia, only a few models of Huawei laptops are now available - MateBook X Pro, MateBook 13 and Honor MagicBook.
