Microsoft Joins OpenJDK Development

Microsoft company signed the agreement"Oracle Contributor Agreement", officially joined the project OpenJDK, which develops the Java reference implementation, and expressed its willingness to participate in joint development. It is noted that Microsoft actively uses Java in its products, for example, provides Java runtime in Microsoft Azure, and now wants to contribute to the common cause.

At the first stage, the Microsoft Java team intends to limit itself to fixing bugs and doing backporting work in order to integrate into the community and adapt to the OpenJDK development rules. For example, Microsoft has already realized that in the OpenJDK community, the preferred way to promote innovation is through initial discussion of changes before patches are released.

The Java development team at Microsoft was led by Martijn Verburg, head of Microsoft's takeover in August jClarity, who developed the Java distribution AdoptOpenJDK and tools for optimizing Java performance. Overall leadership of Microsoft's Java-related projects is now provided by Bruno Borges (Bruno Borges), who previously held the position of the chief product manager at Oracle, responsible for interacting with developers of Java applications.
