Microsoft announced the development of a graphical configurator for WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux), layers for launching Linux-applications in WindowsThe configurator will make it easier to customize WSL to your needs and allow you to manage and view various WSL parameters without having to manually edit the ".wslconfig" file.
The main problem with “.wslconfig” is the difficulty in understanding what settings are available and what values can be set in them. The graphical configurator presents all possible settings, which will be grouped into categories and equipped with an indicator of the acceptability of using a particular parameter in the current system. In this case, the ability to configure through the “.wslconfig” file will also be preserved and the user can simultaneously use both the GUI and the text configuration file.

Other changes to WSL include the inclusion of some previously experimental settings by default. Specifically, the following settings have been enabled: "autoMemoryReclaim=dropCache" to automatically return freed memory back to the Windows and "dnsTunneling=true" for DNS tunneling to Windows 11.
The experimental feature "wsl --manage" has been added. —set-sparse " to automatically return the freed disk space to the main system and the "networkingMode=mirrored" parameter to enable the network mirroring mode required for IPv6 support.
A plugin for WSL has been added to Microsoft Defender, allowing you to use Microsoft Defender for Endpoint to monitor WSL environments. In addition, integration into the WSL agent is provided, allowing you to manage settings through Intune. In the future, we will also add the ability to use the Dev Home configurator to manage and launch WSL environments.
