Microsoft will warm 6 thousand Danish homes with the warmth of its new data center

The “waste” heat from the new Microsoft data center being built in Denmark will be used to heat up to 6 thousand homes. Datacenter Dynamics reports that the data center is being built in the municipality of Hoje Tastrup, located 25 km from Copenhagen - this is one of three facilities being built for the Azure zone, announced back in 2020. It should go live this fall. Two more data centers are being built in Roskilde and Køge. Warm water from the data center's cooling systems will be used by VEKS, which is building district heating systems around Copenhagen together with Høje Taastrup Fjernvarme (HTF). VEKS and Microsoft expect that the first “batch” of heat from the data center will be able to reach residents during the heating season of 2025–2026. Additionally, Microsoft promised to create a holiday park.
