Microsoft reported that its email services were hacked

Microsoft has reported security issues affecting its web-based email services. A certain "limited" number of msn.com and hotmail.com accounts were reportedly compromised.

Microsoft reported that its email services were hacked

The company said it had already identified which accounts were at risk and blocked them. At the same time, it is noted that hackers gained access to the affected user's email account, folder names, email subjects, and the names of other email addresses with which the user communicates. At the same time, the content of letters or attached files were not affected.

It is noted that this problem is already several months old - the attack occurred between January 1 and March 28, according to a letter from Microsoft to users. Attackers entered the system through the account of a technical support employee. This account is currently disabled.

At the same time, according to Redmond, users may receive more phishing or spam emails, so they should be careful not to click on links in emails. It also says that these emails may come from untrusted addresses.

It is important to note that corporate customers are not affected, although it is not yet clear how many users were affected. True, it is already known that some of them are located in the EU.

The corporation has already made a formal apology to all users who were affected by the hack, and said that Microsoft takes data protection very seriously. Security specialists have already been involved in solving the problem, who will investigate and solve the hacking problem.
