Microsoft returns to its usual Windows 10 update release schedule

In March of this year, Microsoft announced to suspend the release of optional updates for all supported versions of the Windows software platform. We are talking about service packs released in the third or fourth week of the month, and the reason for this decision was the coronavirus pandemic. Now it has been announced that optional updates for Windows 10 and Windows Server version 1809 and later have been resumed.

Microsoft returns to its usual Windows 10 update release schedule

“Starting in July 2020, we are resuming non-security updates for Windows 10 and Windows Server version 1809 and later,” reads the communication Microsoft.

It is also noted that no changes have been made to the release schedule for monthly cumulative security updates that are delivered to users as part of “updates on Tuesdays” or Patch Tuesday. This means that all supported versions of Windows will receive regular security updates according to the standard schedule.

As a reminder, optional updates include fixes and improvements that are not related to security. Most often, they bring users fixes for minor bugs in Windows 10. According to reports, Microsoft will release the next optional update in the third week of the month. This means that the next Windows 10 fix pack will be available for download on July 24th. It is worth noting that optional updates are not installed automatically, users are required to download them themselves.
