Microsoft joins $1 trillion club

Microsoft has joined an elite club whose only membership requirement is a market capitalization of $1 trillion or more, while earning the title of the most valuable private company in the US and the world.

The software giant broke through the barrier recently as its shares jumped more than 4% on expected earnings and profits. In the third quarter, Microsoft generated $30,6 billion in revenue and $8,8 billion in net income, driven primarily by the strong performance of its Windows, Xbox, Search Ads, and Surface divisions.

This stock appreciation made Microsoft the third American company to achieve such a monstrous market capitalization. Last August, Apple became the first American company to reaching this goal, but its current market capitalization is $976 billion. Amazon briefly joined Apple in a month, but now it is estimated at $935 billion.

So now Microsoft, according to the total value of its shares, is the most valuable company in the US (and, obviously, in the world). However, the software giant bypassed Apple in terms of market capitalization back in November last year. Microsoft has not officially commented on overcoming this psychological bar of $1 trillion.
