Microsoft will release a free Windows 7 update despite ending support

This month, Microsoft released the final update for Windows 7, which is no longer supported. Microsoft intended to release a fix for this bug only to customers who paid for extended OS support, but the decision was later changed.

Microsoft representatives have confirmed that after installing KB4534310, Windows 7 users' desktop wallpaper may not display correctly. The message notes that the issue only affects cases where the Stretch option is applied to an image set as wallpaper. It is noteworthy that this problem arose at a time when Microsoft was supposed to stop releasing free updates for the software platform.

Not long ago, Microsoft announced that the company's specialists are working on a fix for the mentioned error, but it will only be available to business customers who pay for extended support for Windows 7. Now it has become known that the software giant has changed its decision, and an update that returns the functionality to wallpaper desktop will be available to all users of the legacy platform.

It's worth noting that Microsoft rarely releases publicly available updates and patches for operating systems that have been discontinued. Typically, these updates are available to users who pay separately for extended support. One of the latest such cases involves the release of a security update package for Windows XP, designed to protect systems from ransomware attacks.
