Microsoft has launched the Windows Virtual Desktop service. No need for classic PCs anymore?

Microsoft company Launched its Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) service, which literally allows you to use Windows in an Azure virtual machine. The idea of a “virtual desktop”, in fact, develops the fashionable trend of streaming game and video services, when the client only needs a low-power terminal and Internet access.

Microsoft has launched the Windows Virtual Desktop service. No need for classic PCs anymore?

As noted, the project was launched immediately all over the world. When using Windows Virtual Desktop, the user's location will be tracked so that data processing takes place in the data center closest to him.

Initially it was planned that the launch would take place in the USA, and then other countries would gradually be connected. But it seems the situation has changed. According to WVD chief development engineer Scott Manchester, the preliminary version of the service alone received orders from more than 20 thousand companies. In addition, the Microsoft Teams service received expanded support within the WVD.

As noted, many companies are one way or another transferring their resources to the cloud. This allows you to save on local specialists, since you only need to configure the system once. Otherwise, everything falls on the shoulders of Microsoft technical support. On the other hand, the availability of WVD and other services is critical, since any disruption to the Internet connection or cloud automatically leaves users without the ability to work.

At the same time, we note that the “virtual desktop” allows you to use Windows 10 in multi-session mode. And at the moment, WVD is the only option for such work. It also notes that businesses can access Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 7 Enterprise on WVD without additional licensing costs (although they will have to pay to use Azure) if they have an eligible Windows 10 Enterprise or Microsoft 365 license.
