On January 27, the release of the console file manager Midnight Commander 4.8.31 was published, distributed in source code under the GPLv3+ license.
List of major changes:
- VFS has added support for the LZO/LZOP compression format.
- Virtual FS uc1541, which provides access to disk images of Commodore VIC20/C64/C128, has been updated to version 3.6.
- The implementation of the s3+ virtual file system, used to access Amazon AWS S3 storage, has been translated to Python 3.
- VFS has discontinued support for the FISH server and protocol.
- The requirements for the GLib version have been increased; it now requires at least release 2.32.0.
- Themes have added support for assigning colors to highlight non-printable characters in the editor.
- On the FreeBSD platform, the ext2fs driver has added support for file attributes.
- The problem with setting the incorrect change time after resuming an interrupted copy operation has been resolved.
- The editor now supports deleting selected columns.
- Tar VFS solves the problem with hard link processing.
- In Shell VFS, a problem with file names that include Cyrillic or diacritic characters has been resolved.
