Intel has released the NUC 8 Mainstream-G mini PC in two series: NUC8i5INH and NUC8i7INH. The first included models based on the Core i5-8265U processor, while the second included models based on the Core i7-8565U. Both processors belong to the Whiskey Lake family and have four cores and eight threads. The clock speeds of the chips are 1,6–3,9 and 1,8–4,6 GHz, respectively.

An important feature of the NUC 8 Mainstream-G systems is the presence of a discrete AMD Radeon 540X graphics card, which is built on a Polaris graphics processor with 512 stream processors and has 2 GB of GDDR5 memory. This graphics accelerator will clearly be able to provide a higher level of performance than the integrated Intel graphics often found in NUC systems.

Also, all new products received 8 GB of LPDDR3-1866/2133 RAM, which are soldered directly on the motherboard, and accordingly, the amount of RAM cannot be easily increased. For data storage, there is either a combination of a 16 GB Intel Optane Memory drive and a 1 TB hard drive, or a 2 or 3.0 GB M.4 PCIe 128 x256 solid-state drive. Versions without a drive and, accordingly, pre-installed software are also available.

NUC 8 Mainstream-G computers feature Wireless-AC 9560 CNVi 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5 with up to 1,73 Gbps throughput over a 160 MHz channel. There is also a wired gigabit Intel I219-V adapter, miniDisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0b video outputs, three USB 3.0 ports, one USB 3.1 Type-C, an SDXC slot and a 3,5 mm audio jack.
