The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications of Russia was
This is not the first such initiative. Back in 2016, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev approved the composition of the working group of 21 people. The group had to create such a resource. And the then director of the Russian National Library, Alexander Visly, said that such a resource would be a competitor to the world electronic encyclopedia. Also, according to him, the portal can become a source of encyclopedic information for Russians.
At the moment, little is known about the project. Judging by the available information, the money for the βWikipedia competitorβ will be received by the publishing house βBig Russian Encyclopediaβ. Expenditures include the development of an appropriate software platform, subscription to technical, specialized and reference literature, as well as periodicals and paid sites. There are separate plans to film in theaters, museums, and so on.
So far, the cost of the project has not been announced. The technical requirements for the βRussian Wikipediaβ are also unknown. However, it can be assumed that the new product, if launched, will have fewer possibilities for editing.
Early initiatives on this topic suggested that such an encyclopedia should have restrictions to eliminate "edit wars." It is logical to assume that this can be realized. Implementation dates, even estimated ones, have not yet been announced.
