According to the results of the first quarter of this year, the global smartphone market turned out to be “in the red” again. This is evidenced by statistics published by International Data Corporation (IDC).

In the period from January to March inclusive, 310,8 million "smart" cellular devices were delivered worldwide. This is 6,6% less than in the first quarter of 2018, when shipments were 332,7 million units. Thus, the market is declining for the sixth quarter in a row.

The largest manufacturer in the quarter was the South Korean giant Samsung with 71,9 million sold smartphones and a share of 23,1%. However, the demand for the devices of this company fell by 8,1% year-on-year.

In second place is the Chinese Huawei, which sold 59,1 million smartphones in the quarter, which corresponds to 19,0% of the market. Moreover, Huawei showed the highest growth rates among the leaders - plus 50,3%.

Apple, which closes the top three, sold 36,4 million iPhones, occupying 11,7% of the industry. Deliveries of "apple" devices collapsed by almost a third - by 30,2%.

Next comes Xiaomi, which shipped 25,0 million smartphones, which corresponds to a share of 8,0%. Demand for the Chinese company's devices fell year on year by 10,2%.

Vivo and OPPO tied for fifth place with 23,2 million and 23,1 million devices respectively. Shares of companies - 7,5% and 7,4%.
