Spitzer was launched back in 2003. The device is designed to observe space in the infrared range. Experts admit that they never counted on such a long service life of the telescope.

In 2009, the unit ran out of coolant - this meant the completion of the main mission. However, even after that, the telescope continued to collect scientific data, and in 2016 the Beyond mission was launched, in which, among other things, researchers were looking for new exoplanets.

And now it is reported that on January 30, 2020, Spitzer will transmit the last piece of information to Earth. After that, a command will be given to turn off the device.

The California Institute of Technology also recalls that preparations are underway for the launch of the unique James Webb Space Telescope. The new device will become the most powerful orbital telescope in history. According to current plans, the launch of this observatory will take place in March 2021.
