MIT suspends cooperation with Huawei and ZTE

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has decided to suspend financial and research relationships with telecommunications companies Huawei and ZTE. The reason for this was the investigations conducted by the American side against Chinese companies. In addition, MIT announced tightening control over projects that are somehow connected with Russia, China and Saudi Arabia.

MIT suspends cooperation with Huawei and ZTE

Recall that US prosecutors earlier accused Huawei and its CFO Meng Wanzhou of violating US sanctions imposed on Iran. In addition, the Chinese manufacturer of telecommunications equipment was accused of violating trade secrets and spying for China. Despite the fact that Huawei denies all accusations, the American side does not intend to stop the investigation, while recommending that its allies stop using the equipment of the Chinese vendor. In turn, ZTE was accused of violating sanctions against Iran. Note that until August 2019, Huawei will continue to be among the companies that fund MIT research in various fields.

As for strengthening the control of projects implemented with the participation of companies from Russia, China and Saudi Arabia, it is planned to conduct a detailed study of the risks associated with export control, intellectual property, economic competitiveness, data security, etc.
