"Science" is a real long-term construction, the actual creation of which began more than 20 years ago. Then the block was considered as a backup of the Zarya functional cargo module.

The launch of the MLM into orbit has been repeatedly postponed. According to current plans, the launch should be carried out in 2020.

“As of today, the launch [to the Baikonur Cosmodrome] is scheduled for January 15 next year,” people familiar with the matter said.

This module will be one of the largest in the ISS. It will be able to carry up to 3 tons of scientific equipment on board. The equipment will include a European robotic arm ERA with a length of 11,3 meters.

A high degree of MLM automation will reduce the number of costly spacewalks. The unit is capable of producing oxygen for six people, as well as regenerating water from urine.
