Mobian - Debian Mobile Adaptation Project

The project Mobian an attempt was made to create a Debian GNU/Linux variant for mobile devices. The builds use the regular Debian package base, the GNOME application suite and a custom shell phosh, developed by Purism for the Librem 5 smartphone. Phosh is based on GNOME technologies (GTK, GSettings, DBus) and uses a composite server Phoc, running on top of Wayland. Mobian is limited to preparations for now assemblies only for smartphone pinephone, distributed by the Pine64 community.

Mobian - a project to adapt Debian for mobile devices

From applications offered
Eye of Gnome image viewer, GNOME ToDo note system, ModemManager interface for configuring GSM/CDMA/UMTS/EVDO/LTE modems, GNOME Contacts address book, GNOME Sound Recorder, GNOME Control Center configurator, Evince document viewer, text editor GEdit, GNOME Software application installation manager, GNOME Usage monitoring program, Geary email client,

Applications are built with patches from the Purism project aimed at improving the interface on small screens. In particular, the Purism project is developing a library band with a set of widgets and objects to create a user interface. Into the library is included 29 widgets covering various common interface elements such as lists, panels, edit boxes, buttons, tabs, search forms, dialog boxes, etc. The proposed widgets allow you to create universal interfaces that function seamlessly both on large screens of PCs and laptops, and on small touch screens of smartphones. The application interface dynamically changes depending on the screen size and available input devices. The key goal of the project is to provide the ability to work with the same GNOME applications on smartphones and PCs.
