Rust community moderators resign in protest

The Rust community moderation team has announced they are resigning in protest of their inability to influence the Rust Core Team, which is accountable to no one in the community but itself. Under such conditions, the moderation team, which includes Andrew Gallant, Andre Bogus and Matthieu M., finds it impossible to properly enforce the Code of Conduct in project-related discussion areas, forums, and GitHub discussions.

The departed moderation team also suggested that the Rust developers reach a consensus on overseeing the activities of the Core Team, which currently only answers to itself, unlike other teams in the Rust community. In addition, it is recommended that the new composition of moderators be selected by participants from the community, and not appointed by representatives of the Core Team, and also include representatives of various population groups (diversity).

Details of the Core Team incident that led to the moderation team's resignation are withheld under the guise of confidentiality, while it is argued that the community should be extremely skeptical of statements by the Core Team attempting to clarify the situation.
